All new Tata Motors Safari as been unveiled. It builds on the legacy of prestige and outstanding performance by combining Tata Motors’ Impact 2.0 design language with the proven capability of OMEGARC, an architecture derived from the renowned D8 platform from Land Rover, which in itself is the gold standard of SUVs worldwide.

As the flagship SUV from Tata Motors, Safari has evolved to satisfy the new age SUV customers and promises to set new benchmarks for SUVs in India. It will further take the legacy of Safari forward by building on its pedigree – dominating SUV stance, spacious, comfortable & plush interiors, spirited performance and robust built.

Engine and Performance

All new Tata Motors Safari is powered by a Kryotec 2.0 Turbocharged Diesel Engine with 170 PS Power & 350 Nm of Torque mated to 6 Speed Automatic/ Manual Transmission, the same combination as it is on offer in Tata Harrier. On offer are Multi Drive Modes – Eco, City and Sport married to the ESP Terrain Response Modes (Normal, Rough & Wet) for taking on difficult terrains.

It also gets Advanced Electronically Controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT) for excellent low end torque and linear power delivery. Further improving Safari’s performance is the Light Weight and Low Friction Valve Train Architecture with an Advanced Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) & After Treatment System for maintaining low carbon foot print.

The Front Suspension and Hydra Bush are carried over from D8, tuned for Indian conditions and the Rear Twist Blade suspension is designed by Lotus Engineering UK to suit Indian conditions. A Double chamfer valve technology in advanced Rack & Pinion steering system is designed for High speed driving and ease of parking in tight spaces. All new Tata Motors Safari gets large R18 tyres from the 740mm Tyre family with 235mm width for a stable and grounded driving experience in all terrains.

Safari gets a Monocoque Construction with Optimized Torsional and Bending Stiffness. It is built on an advanced all new 90%+ automated BIW assembly line for robust build quality and reliability. Extensive use of Advanced High Strength steel and Tailor Welded Blanks has been used for high strength & reduced weight.

For a quiter and refined cabin, Auxiliary isolation panels have been designed and Isolated Sub-Frame design minimises the noise and loads caused by severe impacts such as speed humps.

Safety

The new Tata Motors Safari makes sure that all its occupants are cocooned in an impenetrable bubble of safety once inside the vehicle. The new Safari not only boasts of the inherent strengths of OMEGARC but also comes loaded with top-of-the-line safety features to ensure active and passive safety.

Features

The New Safari gets a Floating Island Touch Screen Infotainment System with 8.8” High Resolution Display with a 320W RMS JBL Audio system with 9 speakers (4 Speakers+ 4 Tweeters+ 1 Subwoofer) and external Amplifier. This system has been Acoustically Tuned by JBL. The infotainment system has Android Auto & Apple Car Play Connectivity. It also gets Voice Recognition & SMS Readout, Voice Alerts for Driver assistance, USB/AUX in / Bluetooth Audio Playback.

Tata Motors Safari also gets an Instrument Cluster with 7″ Coloured TFT Display with Media, Phone & Navigation Mirroring between Infotainment & Instrument cluster.

Safari will also gets a 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, Ambient Lighting and iRA Connected Car Technology, which was recently introduced on Altroz iTurbo.

Once launched, the all-new Tata Safari will compete with Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector Plus. and later in the year with next-gen Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai’s new 7-seat Creta-based SUV. Tata Motors Safari has lot on its shoulders as it has to stand by the legendary name Safari.

It will be priced considerably higher than the 5-seater Harrier. This all new Safari looks identical to the 5-seater Harrier and one cant even differentiate it from the front. Unlike the original Safari which stood strong on two major factors, one, its value for money offering and second, 4X4 capability, The new Tata Motors Safari is expected to fail on both these factors as it wont have a VFM pricing and misses out on 4X4 capability as well. Pricing for the new Safari has not yet been announced and bookings open from 4th February 2021.
