2027 Honda Civic Arrives in Canada with New Sport-L Trim and S+ Shift Technology
Honda is expanding the 2027 Civic lineup in Canada with a new Sport-L trim and the introduction of S+ Shift technology on the Sport Touring Hybrid. The updates bring additional comfort features to the gasoline-powered Civic while giving the flagship hybrid a new driver-focused feature.

The 2027 Civic Sedan and Hatchback are scheduled to arrive at Canadian dealerships soon, with the new Sport-L joining the lineup before the end of 2026. Canadian pricing starts at $29,090 MSRP for the Civic LX sedan.
New Sport-L Trim Brings Premium Features to the Gasoline Civic
One of the biggest changes for the 2027 model year is the introduction of the Civic Sport-L, positioned between the LX and Sport Hybrid sedan trims.
Powered by a 2.0-litre gasoline engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the Sport-L offers several comfort and interior upgrades previously reserved for higher-end hybrid variants.
These additions include leather upholstery, heated rear seats, power-adjustable front seats and silver-coloured interior accents.
The Sport-L Hatchback also receives dual-zone automatic climate control, illuminated vanity mirrors and a heated steering wheel.
With the Sport-L sedan starting at $33,550 MSRP and the hatchback at $35,300, Honda is offering buyers additional premium equipment without requiring a move to the hybrid powertrain.
Honda S+ Shift Comes to the Civic Sport Touring Hybrid
The other significant addition is Honda S+ Shift, which will be available on the 2027 Civic Sport Touring Hybrid.
First introduced on the 2026 Honda Prelude, S+ Shift is designed to create a more engaging driving experience by simulating the characteristics of a performance-oriented transmission.

The system incorporates virtual rev-matched downshifts, simulated gear holding and enhanced engine sounds to strengthen the connection between the driver and the vehicle.
Rather than introducing a conventional stepped transmission, the technology provides simulated shifting behaviour as part of the hybrid driving experience.
Its arrival on the Civic Sport Touring Hybrid brings a feature previously introduced on the Prelude to another model in Honda’s electrified lineup.

Fuel Economy: Gasoline vs Hybrid
Honda has also published Canadian fuel-consumption figures for the 2027 Civic lineup.
All figures below are expressed in litres per 100 kilometres (L/100 km).
2027 Honda Civic Sedan
LX

The hybrid sedan’s combined rating of 4.9 L/100 km compares with 6.9 L/100 km for the gasoline Sport-L sedan. Similarly, the hybrid hatchback is rated at 5.0 L/100 km combined, compared with 7.0 L/100 km for the Sport-L Hatchback.
These official figures highlight the fuel-efficiency advantage of the hybrid variants within the 2027 Civic range.
Honda Sensing Remains Standard Across the Lineup
All 2027 Honda Civic models continue to feature the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies.
Standard equipment includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, Forward Collision Warning, and Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning.
Honda also confirms that all Sport models include blind spot information with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
A Canadian Success Story Continues
The Civic has maintained a substantial presence in Canada’s automotive market since its introduction in 1973.
According to Honda, approximately 2.3 million Civics have been sold in Canada, and the model has held the title of Canada’s best-selling passenger car for 26 of the past 28 years.
The hybrid version has also become an important part of the lineup, accounting for 50% of Civic sales in Canada so far in 2026, according to Honda.
The Civic Hybrid received the 2025 North American Car of the Year award.

Canadian manufacturing remains central to the Civic story. Both gasoline and hybrid Civic sedans are produced at Honda of Canada Manufacturing in Alliston, Ontario, while the Civic Hatchback is manufactured in Greensburg, Indiana.
Honda’s Alliston manufacturing operations are celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2026, with more than six million Civics built at the facility since 1988.
What the 2027 Updates Mean for Canadian Buyers
The 2027 Civic updates focus on two different aspects of the ownership experience.
The new Sport-L makes premium interior features available on a gasoline-powered model, giving buyers another choice between the entry-level LX and the hybrid variants.
Meanwhile, the introduction of S+ Shift adds a new dimension to the Sport Touring Hybrid’s driving experience, extending a technology first introduced on the Prelude.
With Canadian pricing confirmed and dealership arrivals approaching, the 2027 Civic continues with a familiar sedan-and-hatchback lineup while introducing meaningful equipment and technology changes.
For Canadian buyers considering the new Civic, the choice now extends beyond body style and powertrain to include a broader selection of comfort and driver-engagement features.
Speedhounds has not independently road-tested the 2027 Honda Civic.
