Mercedes‑Benz Canada has confirmed the 2028 GLA will arrive at Canadian dealerships in the second half of 2027 and will be offered in both an all‑electric variant and a 48-volt hybrid. The details come from Mercedes‑Benz Canada’s August 11, 2026 media release.

Electric and hybrid take different routes

The electric GLA uses an 800-volt architecture, while the hybrid combines 48-volt technology with a combustion engine and an electric motor integrated into its transmission. These are separate powertrain choices: electric-model range or charging claims should not be applied to the hybrid. Mercedes describes the technology in its Canadian announcement.

A roomier cabin and more digital equipment

Beyond the powertrains, Mercedes‑Benz highlights a set of design and interior changes. The company says the new GLA has a sleeker silhouette, gains a longer wheelbase and more interior space. For the electric version the brand shows an optional illuminated “iconic grille.” Inside, Mercedes‑Benz lists an optional MBUX Superscreen, a panoramic roof, available Burmester 3D surround sound, and an MBUX Virtual Assistant with generative‑AI features and Google Cloud/Maps integration. Available equipment needs to be distinguished from standard equipment; Digital Extras can also require account linking, activation and acceptance of the relevant service terms. What Canadian buyers still need before comparing prices

The Canadian arrival window is the second half of 2027, not a confirmed delivery date for an individual vehicle. A 2028 model-year label does not mean the vehicle must wait until calendar 2028 to reach dealerships. That distinction is useful when planning a replacement vehicle or deciding when to ask a retailer for more information.

Mercedes‑Benz Canada’s release does not provide Canadian MSRP, NRCan‑rated electric range, a Canadian trim‑by‑trim equipment list, warranty terms or exact dealer allocations and arrival dates. Canadian buyers will need the final local specifications and prices to make a meaningful comparison with other vehicles.

For an EV, home or workplace charging access and the chargers available on regular journeys belong in the comparison alongside the vehicle itself. The hybrid has a different energy-use profile, so the two versions should be assessed against how the household actually drives, rather than treating electrification as one identical package.

Mercedes-Benz Canada also has separate hybrid GLA and electric GLA previews. For background on the terminology, see our Canadian powertrain guide to BEVs, PHEVs, HEVs and mild hybrids.
