Tata Kite 5 compact sedan (Codename) was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016. The Kite 5 which is a sedan based on the Zica (Name will be changed) hatchback is expected to go on sale later this year. The Indian car maker calls Kite 5 as a “sporty compact sedan”.
The compact sedan is expected to be powered by a petrol and a diesel engine from the Zica hatchback (Tata motors is yet to announce the output for both the engines), the 1.2 litre three cylinder Revotron petrol engine churning out 85 PS and 114 Nm torque, the 1.05 litre three cylinder Revotorq diesel engine churning out 70 PS power & 140Nm torque. Both the engines are expected to be tweaked in terms of output to cater to the additional weight of the sedan as compared to the Zica hatchback.
Tata Kite 5 is 3,995 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width, 1,535 mm in height and 2,450 mm in wheelbase. A best-in-class 420 liter boot, more than its rivals. The sporty compact sedan flaunts a chrome Humanity Line at the front that extends into the dual chamber headlamps. The shoulder lines are strong and Tata calls it the ‘Slingshot line’ which extends upto the the LED tail lamps.
Tata Kite 5 has an integrated roof spoiler, seen for the first time in the segment. Rear has been intelligently given a coupe like finish, making it stand out among the other compact sedans available in the market. Interiors are similar to the Zica with storage spaces and customizable air vents.
A Rack and Pinion electric power assisted steering uses a brush-less motor technology with ‘Active Return’ technology. In terms of safety, Kite 5 is equipped with dual airbags, 9th generation ABS (Anti-Lock Breaking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution) and Corner Stability Control.
In car entertainment system includes an acoustic audio and infotainment system by Harman with 8 speakers. The infotainment system comes with a 5″ screen with audio and video playback through USB. Other features of the infotainment system includes SMS readout, reverse parking display, navigation by MapMyIndia and Juke Car app.
