The Japanese manufacturer on Wednesday at the Auto Expo 2018 launched the all-new model of its popular sports bike in the country Yamaha 2018 YZF-R15. Priced at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the bike will be available in two shades, blue and black. This is the third-generation model of the fully-faired motorcycle and it looks completely different from the outgoing version. The new Yamaha 2018 YZF-R15 v3.0, in it’s sharpest-ever avatar, looks inspired by the YZF- R1 and YZF- R6 siblings.
The bike gets a more muscular fuel tank, like a big racing machine, and a more aerodynamic fairing with a central air-duct design, like the latest model of the YZF-R1 superbike. The tail section has become sleeker and sharper than before, while the seats look much more comfortable as compared to that of the version 2.0.
Powering the Yamaha 2018 YZF-R15 is an all-new bigger 155cc, single-cylinder; liquid-cooled engine which is the most advanced one in its category. The four-valve motor gets a Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system that ensures an optimum performance across the rev-range with Assist & Slipper (A&S) Clutch that reduces the weight of the clutch pull and provide a low stress shifting during deceleration for smoother downshifts.
The fuel-injected engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox and carries forward forged aluminum pistons and DiaSil Cylinders but, with a with a high compression ratio of 11.6:1 which helps it churn out 19.3 PS of power, and a peak torque of 14.7 N.M.
The R15 has always been praised for its handling and expect the Yamaha 2018 YZF-R15 to have much improved handling with upgraded riding position (more aggressive) and wider size rear tire, same size that is offered on YZF R3, the shift light and VVA indicator which makes the power band simple to manage. Keeping in mind the racing enthusiasts, optional “Racing Kit” will also be offered with Metzeler tyre along with Daytona muffler and Frame Slider.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Roy Kurian, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “The inheritance of R-DNA inflicts upon an extraordinary pursuit of technology and performance; precisely it’s what the Yamaha’s R Series is all about. Pushing off with innumerable race victories, this unbeatable combination of power and performance is now ready for India. The YZF-R15 (Version 3.0) will offer an enthralling technology and enormous riding attitude to the customers, whereas the additional purchase option of “Racing Kit” consisting of Metzeler tyre will perk up the overall experience for the racing enthusiasts.”
The new Yamaha 2018 YZF-R15 model also features LED headlamps and tail lamps and an all-digital instrument cluster with 18 parameter display. The front disc brake is a 282 mm diameter disc with two-piston caliper which is larger than before, and 220 mm diameter disc with single-piston caliper in the back while the much-needed Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is still missing from the options list.
