American Automobile giant Ford has recalled 20700 Vehicles in India. The Ford Ecosport Recall in India has been initiated to fix airbag issue and faulty fuel line manufactured between January 2013 and September 2014. Out of the 20700 Ecosport, majority of the units are top-end Titanium variant with 1.5-litre diesel or 1.0-litre petrol engine to fix seat belt sensors that decide when to deploy the side airbags. 2715 petrol units are subjected to be checked for corrosion of fuel line, including 1404 units that have to be checked for both the problems.
This is the second Ford Ecosport recall in India, a 1000 units were recalled just after the launch to relocate the module of the glow plug in the engine architecture. A batch of 3000 Fiesta TDCI was also recalled in November citing safety issues. Ford has recalled more than 3 lakh vehicles in India since 2002.
To ensure safety and customer satisfaction, SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) member companies have implemented “Voluntary Code on Vehicle Recall” from July 2012. The Voluntary Code on Vehicle Recall will address potential issues that exist in a motor vehicle which do not meet the safety requirement due to manufacturing defect and the remedial actions taken in this regard. A vehicle will be covered under safety recall for a period of seven Years.
