SSC Tuatara – Fastest Production Car

SSC Tuatara has gone all bonker and broke the record of the fastest production car in the world. We recently posted a list of the fastest production cars in the world and SSC Tuatara is now the fastest on the list.

Shelby Supercars’ Tuatara hypercar yesterday clocked an average maximum speed of 508.73 km/h and snatched the record from Koenigsegg. Until today, Koenigsegg Agera held the record for the fastest production car at 447.19 km/h. With the internationally acclaimed professional racing driver, Oliver Webb, at the Tuatara’s wheel, the record-breaking drive took place on the morning of Saturday, October 10, outside of Las Vegas near Pahrump, Nevada along a seven-mile stretch of State Route 160.

SSC Tuatara achieved an average speed of 316.11 mph (508.73 km/h) following two consecutive high-speed test runs of 301.07 mph (484.53 km/h) and 331.15 mph (532.93 km/h). In accordance with record criteria, the Tuatara traveled in opposite directions, clocking its speeds within one hour, to break the world record.

In addition to the “Fastest Production Vehicle” record, the SSC Tuatara broke the world records for:

  • “Fastest Flying Mile on a Public Road” at 313.12 mph (503.92 km/h)
  • “Fastest Flying Kilometer on a Public Road” at 321.35 mph (517.16 km/h)
  • Highest Speed Achieved on a Public Road” at 331.15 mph (532.93 km/h)

SSC Tuatara worlds fastest

SSC Tuatara Twin Turbo V8 produces 1,350 horsepower with 91 octane or a massive 1,750 horsepower with E85, the SSC V8 pairs with a CIMA 7 speed transmission, integrated with a state-of-the-art Automac AMT system, providing b shifting capabilities in Track Mode. The car boasts a class-leading 0.279 drag coefficient, but also maintains an identical aero balance from 100 mph to well over 300 mph. The Tuatara is a robust carbon fiber monocoque, engineered with safety, durability, performance, and aesthetics in mind. Composed entirely of carbon fiber, the lightweight frame provides uncompromising safety thanks to its systematic crash structures and durable design.

It is not the first time SSC has held this record, SSC Ultimate Aero TT, held this record in 2007 by achieving 412.28 km/h (256.18 mph), It was measured independently on a temporarily-closed 2 lane stretch of a public highway in Washington State using Dewetron’s GPS tracking system and verified by Guinness.
