Toyota Canada Sets October Record as Electrified Sales Rise

Toyota Canada reported 26,219 Toyota and Lexus sales in October, up 15.6% from a year earlier and a record for the month. Electrified models accounted for 17,735 sales, or 67.6% of the total, according to the company’s November 3 release.

The important distinction is the word electrified. This total includes hybrid vehicles, alongside plug-in hybrids and battery-electric models; it should not be read as 17,735 fully electric sales.

RAV4 Hybrid was a standout, reaching 6,195 sales for its strongest month yet. Toyota also reported October records for models including the bZ, Sienna and Grand Highlander Hybrid.

Toyota and Lexus both gained

Toyota Division recorded 23,088 sales, up 13.8% year over year. Lexus recorded 3,131, up 30.2%. The company said electrified vehicles represented 68.7% of Toyota sales and 53.3% of Lexus sales.

These are manufacturer-reported deliveries for a month already completed. They do not establish what a particular dealership has available today.

Shopping beyond the sales headline

If you are comparing powertrains, start with your own driving and charging circumstances. Ask for a written delivery estimate for the exact trim you want, then compare the full price and equipment. A popular nameplate is a starting point for a shortlist, rather than a substitute for a test drive.
