Honda Marks 40 Years of Building Vehicles in Alliston

Honda is marking 40 years of vehicle manufacturing in Alliston, Ontario, tracing a Canadian production story that began with the Accord in 1986.
In its November 3 anniversary announcement, Honda said its Canadian operations have built more than 11 million vehicles and received $6.5 billion in investment. Honda of Canada Mfg. employs 4,200 active associates, according to the company.
From the Accord to the Civic and CR-V
Alliston added Civic production in 1988. Today, Honda says Plant 1 builds Civic sedans in gasoline and hybrid forms, while Plant 2 builds gasoline and hybrid CR-Vs. The operation serves as the global lead plant for the sixth-generation CR-V.
The anniversary release also points to a more recent milestone: Canadian production of the Civic Hybrid began in 2024. Honda’s 11-millionth Canadian-built vehicle, produced in 2025, was a red 2026 Civic Hybrid.
A manufacturing milestone
Honda says about 70% of the vehicles it sells in Canada each year are produced in Alliston. It also highlights a $4-million commitment through the Honda Canada Foundation toward Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s redevelopment.
The announcement celebrates manufacturing history and community support; it does not introduce a new retail model or announce a new vehicle price.
